Residents were stranded when a bridge connecting at least five villages collapsed due flash floods in India.

Footage shows the locals standing at the end of an elevated dirt path where a concrete structure used to connect to the other side of a river in Bihar on October 3.

Authorities said that was the third bridge to collapse due to flooding in the last two weeks, affecting more than 4,000 individuals from Bakharpur, Govindpur, Babupur, Mohanpur, and Tilakdhari villages.

Road Construction Department Executive Engineer Arvind Prasad Gupta said: ‘The bridge washed away due to flood. It broke and disconnected villages between districts.'

Under a week ago, on September 27, a 49ft (15 metres) long bridge subsided connecting Dominia Chowk and Babupur districts collapsed due to heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department issued a heavy rain alert earlier this week due to cyclonic circulation over Myanmar and eastern Bangladesh moving towards northeast Bihar.
