A playful orangutan turned hay into a soft mattress for some jumping fun.

Footage shows a clever primate building a mound with straws before diving into it at Moscow Zoo in Russia on October 2.

With its front paws stretched upward, the ape somersaulted across the hay drawing laughter from visitors.

Moscow Zoo General Director Svetlana Akulova said: 'Here, everyone works as best they can.'

There are two families of orangutans living in the zoo one of which came from Sumatra with a shaggy, large-cheeked male father, adult females, and restless babies. They can drink tea from a bottle, are very playful and dress up in clothes that are brought to them.

Next to their enclosure are the orangutans from Borneo.
