A powerful tornado ripped through homes in the Philippines.

Footage shows the weather phenomenon damaging structures in its path, tearing metal sheets from houses and sweeping them off the ground in Quezon province on October 5.

At least five properties were destroyed when the whirlwind formed at a farming village.

Residents watched from the other side of a field while the structures were devastated.

One of the neighbours, Stephanie Diola Bedona, said: ‘It was hot in the afternoon, and the weather suddenly changed. We thought it was only going to rain when the strong winds blew. We were scared for our safety and hid in the farm.'

A tornado is a rapidly rotating column of air that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground, often appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud. Tornadoes can cause significant damage due to their intense winds, which can reach speeds over 300 mph, making them one of the most destructive weather phenomena.
