Revolting footage shows 'world's dirtiest' dental clinic
A patient was shocked when she arrived at a dental clinic - which she said was the dirtiest in the world.
Pakawan Rujirat wanted to avoid the long queue at her regular dentist and spotted a nearby business that was ominously less busy in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 30.
She said it looked normal at the front desk so she agreed to be seen by a medic. But when she went to the toilet, she saw how dirty it was, with grimy floors and walls and unclean equipment.
Footage shows the revolting condition of the dental clinic, with old rugs, and dark and yellow walls greasy with stains.
Pakawan said: ‘I didn't go to my regular clinic because I had to wait in a long queue, so I decided to walk to a nearby clinic.
‘It was very quiet, there were no customers, so I thought I would give it a try. The front looked okay, but the inside it was very old and dirty.'
The patient said that despite the poor condition of the rooms, she went ahead with a simple non-surgical procedure to have her braces removed for 2,000 baht (45.64 GBP).
She said: ‘The equipment was rusty, and there was only one dentist without assistance.
‘I did not walk away after seeing how the room looked because I was afraid to leave after entering the treatment room. I thought it would impolite to book in and then leave.'
Pakawan recorded a video of the dental clinic and vowed never to return again.
She added: 'I won't be going back but I do want to warn people to check the condition of the rooms before they book a treatment.'
The quality and cleanliness of dental clinics in Southeast Asia can vary greatly depending on the country, region, and specific clinic. In general, many dental clinics in urban areas and major cities across Southeast Asia, such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Manila, meet international standards in terms of hygiene, cleanliness, and professionalism.
However, some may not meet the same level of cleanliness or equipment standards.
Southeast Asia is a hub for medical tourism, especially for dental work. Many clinics in countries like Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia cater to international patients and maintain high levels of cleanliness to appeal to tourists from countries with stringent healthcare standards.
