A customer sparked panic when he was found allegedly unresponsive in his car while queueing at a drive-through payment booth.

The male driver was waiting in line to pay his electric bill when he was overcome with drowsiness in Albay province, the Philippines, on October 2.

He parked his car near the side of the Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) building to take a nap - only to be awoken by emergency responders shaking his sedan.

CCTV footage shows panicked staff knocking on the car roof and windows as they tried to rouse the unconscious man who had not moved his car in 30 minutes.

Fearing the customer had died, they called an ambulance to the scene but were baffled when he suddenly jolted awake.

He explained that he was only taking a nap while waiting for his turn.

Following the scare, ALECO reminded customers to stay alert or have a companion while driving.

The company added: 'To avoid long queues at the drive-thru, especially if you are tired or hungry, you can pay using our payment partners such as Gcash, Bayad Center, ECPay, BDO, Union Bank and Camalig Bank.

'ALECO management is grateful for the quick action of the Legazpi 911 Command Center after a consumer was unresponsive for almost 30 minutes inside the car. It was learned that he fell asleep while in line at the Drive-thru Payment Booth.'
