Chinese carmaker FAW propels intelligent transformation of auto industry

(Voice_over)

China's oldest luxury car brand, FAW, or First Auto Works Group, is leading the country's drive towards a green future in the auto industry.

At its innovation center in Changchun City, the capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, visitors are shuttled around the sprawling 15,000 square meter facility in an autonomous minibus.

The vehicles is charged wirelessly thanks to electromagnetic induction coils that have been embedded along a portion of the route.

At an indoor lab for intelligent driving systems, new models are evaluated under various scenarios like low light, heavy rain or even pedestrian emergency conditions.

And not far from the innovation base is one of the Group's factories.

Outside, the building is fitted with photovoltaic panels that generate 14 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy, accounting for about eight percent of the factory's total annual power usage.

Inside, a highly automated final assembly workshop with 11 production lines capable of seamlessly transitioning between different vehicle models.

The factory says a new Hongqi vehicle rolls off the assembly line every 60 seconds.
