This is the moment rescuers pull a sunken Lada from the bottom of a river after its careless driver parked it on the edge of the river bank and it fell into the water while he was away.

The man, not named, reportedly did not notice how close to the river he had parked in the city centre of St. Petersburg, Russia, on the morning of 3rd October.

He left to run some errands and when he returned, he discovered that there was no trace of his car, except for dubious bubbles in the Neva River.

Realising that his Lada had sunk, he called rescuers.
Video footage shows emergency teams pulling the car out of the water, and divers and a rescue truck crane also taking part in the operation.
In order to hook the car to the cable, the divers had to dive to a depth of four metres.

Then the sunken vehicle was slowly lifted up by a crane and carefully placed on dry land.
