"I made $10k selling on-the-go spices you can attach to your keys"
A woman who experienced underwhelming food on a cruise created portable spices which you can attach to your keys.
Kayla Heyward, 30, went on the trip just over seven years ago and found a lot of the food bland and dull.
So, when her uncle planned a cruise with the extended family for her aunt's 60th birthday in May, she didn't want to be caught in the same predicament.
She made a keychain prototype that she took on the cruise and it was hit with her family.
Kayla created "Mini Flavor Keys" in June and has so far made over £7,500 ($10,000) from her creative idea."
Kayla, an entrepreneur from Frisco, Texas, said: "The whole idea came from how underwhelmed I was by the food on my first cruise."
"Since food is a huge part of the cruise experience, I didn't want to go through that again especially as my sisters and I are serious foodies."
"So, I brainstormed and came up with a keychain that holds all my favourite seasonings, which I called Mini Flavor Keys."
Kayla said: "I surprised my sisters with it and they loved it!"
"Before long, the whole family was using it on the ship."
The keychain - which cost £50 ($65) - can carry up to nine spice bottles, of which include many flavours from salt and pepper basics to a white truffle sauce.
Kayla said: "If I had to pick the essentials, they would be the Salt and Pepper Blend, Garlic Salt Blend, and the Cajun Blend."
"We're also really excited about our White Truffle and Hot Sauce, which isn't for sale yet, but it's another essential seasoning in the Mini Flavor Keys."
Less than five months since launching, the business has been a great success for Kayla.
She has sold out of products twice and is taking pre-orders in the interim.
Kayla said: "We started by selling what we had in stock and then transitioned to pre-orders as we worked on restocking."
"Once we moved to active sales, we sold out quickly and had to go back to a pre-order model."
"The total earnings of $10,000 therefore come from both our active and pre-order sales."
