Yemen: Yemeni centenarian expresses appreciation for China for assistance, win-win cooperation
Yemen - Recent
A Yemeni centenarian has expressed his appreciation for China's medical assistance to Yemen and its principle of mutually-beneficial cooperation in a message to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The centenarian attributes his longevity to the help of the Chinese medical aid teams which cured his chronic digestive system disease decades ago. Since then, members of the Chinese medical aid teams have become his close friends.
The historian also lauded China for its global status and respect for other developing countries like Yemen when carrying out cooperation with them.

"I have many, many stories with China, which started in 1960s. The Chinese medical aid team came to Yemen in 1967. Many Chinese doctors made huge contributions to Yemen's medical care at the Seiyun General Hospital. At that time, our country really needed this assistance. We became good friends, and I exchanged photos with them. After they returned to China, we stayed in touch. My family also has a close relationship with them. My wife's brother Abdulrahman once served as Yemen's ambassador to China in Beijing. His children are also in China and have learned Chinese. These are things demonstrating bilateral friendship and mattering a lot to our Hadramaut Valley. China provided us with medicines and clothes, and sent here professional doctors, including ophthalmologists, nephrologists and many others. These are priceless assistance at that time. The entire Yemen, especially Hadramautm has benefited a lot from them. History will remember the Chinese people and the Chinese government. Nothing will be forgotten. I'm 106 years old now. My close relationship with China makes me feel deeply privileged. I still have pictures related to China hung in my house.";

"I think the Chinese people have opened the door for cooperation and don't want to control or rule any other country. What they seek is cooperation, so China has set leading records in many fields. I have seen these things on the internet. All the television stations are reporting on China and discussing China's future. All people are paying attention to China. What I want to tell everyone is that we should cooperate with China, both between governments and in the private sector. There is no such thing as who controls whom in our cooperation. We just work together. That's the model.";
