Malaga, Spain - October 07, 2024

The tranquility of the Ciudad Jardin district in Malaga was shattered this Monday by the outbreak of a forest fire in the Leoncillo area, sparking fear among local residents. The fire began in a wooded area along Camino de Casabermeja, near Pinos de San Jose, prompting an immediate and massive response from firefighting units both on the ground and in the air.

The fire was reported at approximately 12:45 PM, with the Andalusian Emergency Service, 112 Andalucia, receiving over thirty calls alerting them to the flames. The Infoca Plan, responsible for managing forest fires in Andalusia, quickly mobilized significant resources, including two Bricas (Brigadas de Refuerzo contra Incendios), four forest firefighter teams, various technical and environmental agents, multiple fire engines, and air support ranging from light helicopters to heavy water-dropping aircraft.

By 6:15 PM, after nearly three hours of intense work, the fire was declared under control, although operations continued to ensure its complete extinction. The effort involved 35 forest firefighters, supported by technical and environmental personnel, battling the blaze to prevent it from spreading to nearby residences.
