Footage shows firefighting planes and helicopters dumping fire retardant on the Glenhaven Fire in California.

The video also captures Cal Fire's airborne units releasing gallons of water on October 5 to extinguish the flames threatening communities in the Sonoma-Lake-Napa region.

Authorities reported that two crucial evacuation centres have been activated - the Lucerne Senior Center at 3985 Country Club Dr in Lucerne and the Old Airport Property at 6820 Old Hwy 53 in Clearlake.

Cal Fire said the blaze began at 11:37 am on Friday in Lake County. It has burned 417.4 acres and has been active for three days. A fire crew of 200 personnel has been working on-site, managing to contain 65 per cent of the fire as of Monday evening.

The cause is still under investigation.
