Vehicle-to-everything technology improves traffic safety in autonomous driving

The automotive industry in central China's Hubei Province is teaming up with tech companies to develop V2X technology in the race towards autonomous driving.

V2X, or Vehicle-to-Everything, allows cars to collect and share information in real time with other drivers and infrastructure to improve safety and traffic efficiency.

Dongfeng Motor Group, the largest carmaker in Hubei, has partnered with China Information and Communication Technologies Group Corporation, or CICT, to develop the technology.

In one road test, a car used the technology to successfully execute an emergency stop after the vehicle in front of it made an unexpected swerve around a large object.

Zhou Zheren, General manager, intelligent vehicle division, CICT Connected and Intelligent Technologies Co., Ltd.:

"The secret is that this vehicle uses C-V2X technology whose core part is this white domain controller. It combines the two functions of communication and autonomous driving to create a connected system of the rear car, the front car and the road and help the rear car to obtain a perception beyond visual range."

Hubei is currently home to 25 auto manufacturers and over 1,600 parts suppliers and boasts one of the country's most complete industrial chains.
