Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi warned on Monday that Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon is pushing the region to the brink of a comprehensive war.

During a press conference following his meeting with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Safadi said his visit to Lebanon was a message of absolute solidarity in the face of Israeli aggression and its consequences.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic): AYMAN SAFADI, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates
"I am here in Lebanon by the directions of His Majesty, the king, bringing a message of absolute solidarity with brotherly Lebanon in the face of the Israeli aggression and all the repercussions it could bring and the humanitarian crisis. I'd like to reiterate the Jordanian stance in supporting Lebanon's security and sovereignty and the well-being of the Lebanese. We will provide all the aid the kingdom can give to help Lebanon face the repercussions of this brutal aggression which represents a clear violation of the international law and the sovereignty of Lebanon. It started in Gaza and now continues to Lebanon and pushes the whole region into the abyss of full-blown regional war."

He condemned Israeli aggression on Lebanon and expressed support for efforts to rebuild Lebanese national institutions. He also stressed the need for the international community to act immediately to stop the aggression and implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

He announced Jordan's readiness to provide all possible assistance to Lebanon in confronting the consequences of the aggression, which constitutes a clear violation of international law and Lebanon's sovereignty.

Regarding Jordan's stance on the use of its airspace for military operations, Safadi stated that Jordan will not permit any breaches of its airspace and sovereignty.

"We conveyed this clear message to Iran and Israel, and we informed everyone that we will not allow our airspace to be breached and the security of our citizens to be threatened," he said.

During their meeting, Mikati emphasized Lebanon's deep appreciation for Jordan's support via the air bridge between Amman and Beirut, which provides relief to those displaced by the aggression. He acknowledged Jordan's efforts to defend Arab issues and promote peace and stability as always commendable.

Safadi arrived in Beirut on Monday aboard a Jordanian Armed Forces plane carrying 13 tonnes of food, relief supplies, medicine, and medical supplies. It is the seventh Jordanian aid plane to arrive in Lebanon since Sept. 18.
