Chaos on Chinese highway as thumbtacks fall from truck, damaging tyres on multiple cars
On October 6, an unexpected incident occurred on a section of the Chongqing highway near the Zhongzhou service area, where a large number of thumbtacks were scattered on the road, causing damage to the tires of multiple passing vehicles.
According to a report from the Chongqing police, a truck traveling on the G50 Huyu Expressway in Shizhu County accidentally dropped a box of thumbtacks from its cargo bed, scattering them across the highway lanes.
The cause of the thumbtacks falling was due to improperly secured cargo and a failure to inspect the load during transit, ruling out any intentional action. As a result, the tires of 22 small cars were punctured, but fortunately, there were no blowouts or secondary accidents. After addressing the issue, all the affected vehicles safely left the scene around 1 am on October 7.
The police fined the driver, Zhao, 200 yuan and held him responsible for compensating for the damage caused. Additionally, both the driver and the associated freight company received legal education.
