Farmers held a muddy tractor race to celebrate harvesting rice in Thailand.

Footage shows the zany villagers riding modified tractors as they raced across a rain-soaked rice paddy in Ang Thong province on October 5.

Proud participant Aun, 38, said the locals were delighted to finish harvesting their crop so they decided to turn the field into a makeshift race track for fun.

He said: 'The racing tractors have modified engines and they can reach speeds of no less than 37 miles per hour. The event helped farmers exchange knowledge in developing tractor engines and was a good way to build camaraderie.'

In Thailand, the annual rice harvesting season lasts from November to January. The exact timing of the harvest depends on local weather conditions and farming practices in different regions of the country.
