STORYLINE:

Africa, including Tanzania, has benefited a lot from the People's Republic of China's (PRC) development and cooperation ever since its founding 75 years ago, Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association secretary general Joseph Kahama told Xinhua.

Kahama highlighted that over the past 75 years, China has become the world's second-largest economy.

Meanwhile, China has made itself a bearer of peace and a beacon of hope on the international stage by adhering to its policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): JOSEPH KAHAMA, Secretary general of the Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association
"It's done great on the international stage, bringing about a multipolar world and respect for an alternative development path for other developing countries. But not only that, it's been great for Africa through the FOCAC (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation) - through modernization."

Kahama said China has been a great friend of African countries for decades, citing the construction of the TAZARA (Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority) railway as an example.

Built in the 1970s, the TAZARA railway is one of China's earliest and largest overseas aid projects.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JOSEPH KAHAMA, Secretary general of the Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association
"So in terms of success story, TAZARA was one, but the other success story is China's involvement in Tanzania in building the ICT (broadband) backbone (project). Chinese-funded. Chinese have been there for parts of the lots of the SGR (Standard Gauge Railway)."
