Curious sable peeks at wildlife camera before disappearing from view
This is the amusing moment a curious sable peeks at a wildlife camera before disappearing from view.
Footage shows the small omnivorous mammal pausing to investigate the device with keen interest at the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve in Siberia, Russia.
After briefly examining the equipment and its surroundings, the animal leapt away gracefully on Thursday, October 3.
Authorities noted that the sable has every reason to be cautious, as it has historically been hunted for its prized and luxurious fur.
The Sayano-Shushenski Nature Reserve and the Shushensky Bor National Park said: 'In the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve, a fluffy forest predator - the sable - was captured by a camera trap.
'The curious animal closely examines the unfamiliar device, listening attentively to the surrounding sounds.
'Soon, distracted by something in the distance, it makes a few jumps to the side and disappears.'
Senior researcher Roman Afanasiev from the United Directorate added: 'The sable is a common species in the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve, and its presence is regularly recorded by camera traps set up in forest zones and near the edges of woodland areas.'
The sable (Martes zibellina) is a small, omnivorous mammal from the weasel family. It is known for its sleek body, bushy tail, and beautiful fur. This species is found in the dense taiga forests, flatlands, and mountain regions of northern Asia.
