Passengers on board a cruise ship has been diverted from Florida to Cuba to avoid a direct hit from Hurricane Milton.

The Sun Princess, which set off from Southampton, England, 16 days ago on September 23, 2024, has been diverted to the north coast of Cuba.

The ship was supposed to dock at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, today (09/10) but due to the category four hurricane it was initially moved forward to yesterday (08/10).

But, due to the hurricane, Port Everglades - where the ship would stop - was closed and the ship was stranded five miles off the coast of Florida for the storm.

While some passengers were airlifted off, the cruise ship was diverted to the coast of Cuba to avoid the direct impact of Hurricane Milton.

A passenger onboard - who does not want to be named - said people are feeling "anxious" and "frustrated"."

They said: "Uncertainty is the prevailing mood here - many cruisers are from Florida and are anxious and concerned about family and property at home."

"Many people are feeling snappish and frustrated at not being able to disembark yesterday as the seas were relatively calm and now are in a 'forced exile' onboard."
