An army helicopter brought aid to locals affected by Typhoon Krathon in the Philippines.

Footage shows a twin-engine Sokol chopper from the Philippine Air Force (PAF) Tactical Operations Wing Northern Luzon landing with relief goods in Itbayat town in the northernmost island of Batanes on October 9.

Social welfare department personnel also arrived in the aircraft to distribute cash assistance to the locals.

In a statement, the PAF said: 'These coordinated efforts are a testament to the Air Force's commitment to supporting the national government's efforts to help affected residents and ensure access to food and clean drinking water during this critical period.'

Krathon, locally known as 'Julian', devastated the northern part of the Philippines, triggering landslides and flooding that killed at least five people.

It hurtled into Taiwan's port city of Kaohsiung, killing two people and sparking evacuations as it made landfall.

Krathon has since weakened into a tropical depression and is expected to move towards China.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
