An abandoned baby boy was found alive inside a chicken coop in the Philippines.

The naked newborn with his umbilical cord still attached was left near the home of resident Malou De Leon in Agoncillo town, Batangas province, on the morning of October 9.

Malou said: 'I was going take a hen from my coop when I noticed an eco bag on the ladder. I was shocked to find the baby moving inside.'

The alarmed resident said she called the police and village officials before clothing the infant.

Footage shows villagers crowding around to get a glimpse of the baby before he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Doctors said the boy was premature. He was moved to the neonatal intensive care unit for monitoring.

Officials have decided to name the baby 'Moses'.

In an October 9 statement, the Agoncillo local government said: 'Baby Moses is currently in the NICU. He is in a stable condition. Thank you to those who donated breast milk, clothes, pacifiers, and other needs.'

Moses will be handed over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office when he is discharged from the hospital.

Authorities said they were investigating the identity of his parents.
