A kind resident rescued a frail puppy stuck in a drain outside her home.

Sakonwan Phoomdee said she first heard the pooch crying at night but thought it was only looking for its mother in Phichit, Thailand on October 4.

However, when Sakonwan returned from work, she still heard the noise and looked for the canine until she found it trapped under the sewer on October 5.

Footage shows the Good Samaritan trying to lift the heavy concrete manhole covers but without success.

She called a neighbour for help, who carried the blocks from the top of the drain before the black puppy was extracted.

She said: ‘The dog might have wandered away from its mother and fell through a small hole. I helped the dog and will take care of it.'

Sakonwan took the puppy with her to her home where it will live with her.
