Two rescued Great horned owls were released into a forest after being nursed back to health.

Footage shows the pair - a male and a female - soaring back into the wildreness following months of rehabilitation in Del Norte, Colorado, on September 30.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) said the female owl was found ensnared in a wire at the San Juan National Forest, while the male had been hit by a vehicle near Lake Nighthorse.

Both were taken to the Frisco Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center to recover.

Great horned owls are large, powerful birds of prey native to the Americas, known for their distinctive tufted 'horns' which are actually feathers. They are exceptional hunters with excellent hearing and vision that allow them to hunt a wide variety of prey.
