Video shows music and fireworks until 4am at wake for stabbing victim
Residents say they were kept up until 4am by music and fireworks at a wake for a stabbing victim.
Dontae McLaren, 24, died on Sunday September 29 in a knife fight that left two other men injured.
Since his passing a memorial was set up near his home in Wynter Street, Battersea, and multiple gatherings have been held in his honour.
On Tuesday October 8 the planned wake was held in the street from around 7pm until 4am - residents say.
Videos from the night show music blasting and fireworks being shot out of what appears to be a gun.
One neighbour, who has lived there ten years, said she had to call in sick to work the next day having been kept up all night by the noise.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "There have been gatherings every single night with people paying their respects. "
"On Tuesday there was what was obviously quite a planned event with drinks, barbeques, a DJ, fireworks coming out of a gun. "
"It was absolutely horrific for all of the people who live there. "
"I am devastated for this poor chap and his family and friends. But that shouldn't have taken place in a residential building. "
"I have a dog who was terrified and a lot of the neighbours have very young children who were really scared. "
"It was just awful and it went on until about 4am. It was really scary and intimidating."
The local claims that there were hundreds of people in attendance at the event which meant residents could do nothing to stop it.
She described how many neighbours, including herself, called the police throughout the night but no officers ever showed up.
She added: "Hundreds of complaints were received by the police and they just did absolutely nothing. "
"It was just so loud and really dangerous. "
"It was really quite traumatic to be honest because we live there, that is our home. "
"We just all feel really let down by the police. "
"We were worried that things could have taken a violent turn. There was no care about us."
A spokesperson from Metropolitan police said: "Police received multiple calls on the evening of Tuesday, 8 October to Wynter Street, Wandsworth, following reports of a large group of people gathering, noise and fireworks being let off."
"Police had been informed beforehand and were present. There were no arrests."
"The local policing team have been informed."
