A driverless car engulfed in flames sped down a motorway in India, causing panic among motorists.

Footage shows the burning vehicle hurtling along the elevated Ajmer Road towards Sudarshanpura Pulia in Jaipur on October 12.

Onlookers ran for safety upon seeing the moving car, which stopped after hitting a road divider.

Local reports indicated that Jitendra Jangid, a resident of Divya Darshan Apartment in Mansarovar, was in the car. While descending the elevated road, he noticed smoke from the air conditioning unit and called his brother for advice. After exiting and lifting the bonnet, he found the engine on fire.

The blaze spread rapidly, damaging the handbrake and causing the vehicle to roll down the slope.

A fire tender was dispatched from 22 Godam shortly after raising the alarm. By the time the flames were extinguished, the vehicle had been utterly destroyed.

There were no reported injuries following the incident.
