"World media leaders have gathered here in Urumqi, capital of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to attend the 6th World Media Summit, and have in-depth exchanges on today's media development.
The 6th World Media Summit runs from Oct. 12 to 17 with the theme of 'Artificial Intelligence and Media Transformation.'
Xinjiang, located at the heart of the Eurasian continent, was once a vital corridor of the ancient Silk Road. Now it continues to serve as an important transportation and trade hub under the Belt and Road Initiative.
It's the first time that the World Media Summit has been held in Xinjiang.
The summit has gathered over 500 delegates from 106 countries and regions. What do they have to say about this year's summit and what are their expectations?"
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): WONG CHUN WAI, Chairman of Malaysian National News Agency
"I'm really looking forward to this World Media Summit. There's so much to learn, so much to listen to, the stakeholders, the journalists. So for the next few days, I hope to absorb and to learn the new trends, the new applications, the platforms on how the AI, artificial intelligence, could be utilized in a responsible, in an ethical way."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): SABEEN USMAN KHATTAK, Executive Director of Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation
"AI is now everywhere. I mean it's not only in media. It's like in the technology. It's like in the infrastructure. It's in the engineering. So I think it's going to bring a huge huge, tremendous change in media. So as far as this transformation is concerned, it is totally mind-boggling. And I think it's going to change all the world and our lives as well."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): PETER VINCE, Director of Netky.sk
"I expect that I will get to know some people from all over the world, from different types of media, and we should have some nice cooperation between each other."
SOUNDBITE 4 (English): WENSEL MAVARA, Founder/Chairperson of Namibia Daily Newspaper
"This is my first time to participate in the World Media Summit.
I'm learning a lot from other media.
So it will help our media go back home. This is a really good opportunity."
SOUNDBITE 5 (English): KHALED MOUSSA, Managing Editor of Muscat Media Group
"Already, we are affected a lot, with AI, negative and positive.
As media, we have to learn a lot, educate ourselves a lot, and we have to look for the training in this field, because it gives us more help and more solutions.
My expectation is, it (World Media Summit) will, as usual, succeed with amazing, good results."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Urumqi, China.
