This footage shows an adrenaline-packed, high-speed chase as a teenager on a motorbike flees a police officer who repeatedly orders him to pull over as they dodge cars in busy traffic.

Ruan Oliveira Gabriel, 19, mounted a pavement in a dangerous manoeuvre as he attempted to escape the law enforcement officer in the Fonseca neighbourhood of Niteroi, in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, on 26th September, with the images surfacing online on 10th October.

The footage shows a police officer repeatedly ordering the suspect to pull over, nearly catching up with him several times before the suspect continues his mad race.

After dodging cars and taking corners at dangerous speeds, even mounting a pavement and forcing terrified pedestrians to get out of the way, the police officer finally catches up with the suspect with the help of a colleague on a motorbike and another police officer in a police car.

The suspect was arrested.

He was charged with the crime of disobedience after the cop spotted him pulling risky stunts on the bike without wearing a helmet.

The chase reportedly lasted about two kilometres (1.2 miles).
After being arrested, Gabriel claimed that he had not stopped because the motorcycle was not his. It is currently unclear who the motorcycle belong to and he was taken to a police station to clarify his actions.

The investigation is ongoing.
