Bus driver makes heroic emergency stop to save boy choking on candy
On the afternoon of October 11th in Luohe, Henan, bus driver Niu Zilin became a hero during his routine shift. Around 5:09 PM, while driving along Jinggangshan Road near the intersection with Nenjiang Road, he spotted a frantic woman on an electric bike in the middle of the road, desperately patting her daughter’s back and holding the child upside down. Sensing something was terribly wrong, Niu’s instincts kicked in.
Thanks to the emergency training he'd received, Niu immediately realized the little girl was choking. Acting fast, he safely pulled the bus over, opened the door, and sprinted toward them. The girl’s face had turned pale, and after a quick assessment, Niu’s fears were confirmed—the child had a piece of candy lodged in her throat. Time was critical.
Without hesitation, Niu performed the Heimlich maneuver. In a tense moment that felt like an eternity, the candy finally dislodged, and the little girl cried out in relief. The crisis was over, and Niu, now calm, returned to his bus to continue his route, his quick thinking having saved a young life.
A month later, on November 13th, the boy’s grateful family arrived at Niu Zilin’s bus company with a banner in hand, expressing their heartfelt thanks for his bravery and selflessness. Niu’s heroic actions on that fateful day turned him into a local hero and a true symbol of compassion in action
