Joint officers succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of 6,514 undocumented birds at Bandar Bakau Jaya Harbor, Bakauheni District, South Lampung Regency, on Tuesday night.


Head of the Bakauheni Quarantine Work Area, Akhir Santoso, in South Lampung, Wednesday said that his party had seized 6,514 wild birds without complete documents.

"Yes, that's right, at around 20.30 WIB officers managed to thwart the delivery of 6,514 wild animals in the form of birds packed in 216 baskets, at Bandar Bakau Jaya Harbor, Bakauheni," he said.

He explained that the chronology of the arrest occurred when joint officers received a report from the public about a vehicle that was going to smuggle wild animals.

"On October 15 2024, at approximately 15.30 WIB, officers from the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, Lampung Fish and Plant Animal Quarantine Center, Bakauheni Port Service Unit received information from the public about the existence of wildlife smuggling," he said.

Then officers together with related agencies, namely from the Kerinci BAIS TNI Task Force, DitPolairud Polda Lampung, Penengahan Police, South Lampung, NGO flight protecting Indonesia's birds, followed up on the information by carrying out surveillance at the port.

At around 20.30 WIB the vehicle in question passed through and entered the Port of Bandar Bakau Jaya, Bakauheni, checked by officers, the box truck vehicle with plate number B 9471 KXV was found to be carrying wild animals in the form of 6,514 birds packed in baskets totaling 216 boxes.

The bird comes from Kayu Agung, South Sumatra and is planned to be sent to Balaraja, Tangerang. The sender's name is Usman and the recipient is OKJ (collector). These commodities were not accompanied by health certificates nor were they reported and handed over to the Quarantine Officer for quarantine measures.

The types of birds are: Ciblek 2080, Prenjak 1040, Pleci 1600, Pentet Gray 160, Crucuk 229, Cucak Kurincang 120, Kutilang Mas 60, Kepodang 39, Coconut Hummingbird 238, Sepah Raja 5 , 19 Mangrove Flycatchers, 15 Gray Sriguntings, 31 Black Sriguntings, 52 Siri Siri, 40 Turtledoves, 43 Mandarin Poksai, 6 Air Mancur, 80 Tepus, 60 Cipaw, 6 Sungai Rainfall, 6 quail down/10 decorative chickens.

Then 60 Stone Gelatiks, 150 Kebo Starlings, 15 Large Green Cucaks, 6 Blue Cucaks, 3 Twig Cucaks, 33 Brown-breasted Flycatchers, 5 Pentet Kembang, 76 kinoi, 5 Melayu Srindits, Ayongan Engkek 2 birds, 51 Twig Cucaks, 47 Mini Cucaks, 11 Bearded Cucaks, 3 Onion Cucaks, 24 Vines. Of this number, 257 are protected.

The article that was violated was Article 88 of Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning quarantine of animals, fish and plants. Then the threat of punishment can be punished with a maximum prison sentence of 2 years and a fine of 2 billion. Also Law Number 5 concerning 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Ecosystems with the threat of 5 years in prison.
