Thailand's idyllic Similan Island reopens for upcoming tourist season

An idyllic Thai island has reopened to tourists for the upcoming holiday season.

Island 8, also known as Similan Island, in the southern province of Phang Nga welcomed the first batch of visitors on October 15 after the area was closed for the rainy monsoon season.

The island is the largest in the Similan archipelago, and has become known for its crystalline waters, beautiful white sand beaches on the horseshoe bay, and bizarre Instagram spots like the boot-shaped 'Donald Duck rock' or .

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation said safety equipment and damaged facilities in the Mu Ko Similan National Park have been repaired to ensure smooth trips for holidaymakers.

Damaged ropes and equipment at piers where tourists dock have also been replaced.

The Similan Islands are a group of 11 small islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand. Known for their clear blue waters, vibrant coral reefs, and diverse marine life, they are a popular destination for diving, snorkeling, and sightseeing.
