In a heartening tale of wildlife rehabilitation, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Southwest Region shared a story that's sure to uplift spirits. A Swainson's hawk, found injured near Monte Vista, has made a remarkable recovery after spending over two months at the Frisco Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Del Norte.

The majestic bird of prey was discovered on a road, presumably a victim of a vehicular strike. With a leg injury that thankfully wasn't a fracture, the hawk was brought in for care. Over the course of 2.5 months, under the expert care of the rehabilitation team, the hawk regained its strength and the use of its leg, preparing for its eventual return to the wild.

Earlier this month, in what could only be described as perfect timing, the hawk was released near its original location, just as the migration season for Swainson's hawks was beginning. This successful rehabilitation and release not only marks a personal victory for the hawk but also underscores the invaluable work done by wildlife rehabilitation centers.
