Chittoor, India - October 15, 2024

A tragic incident unfolded in southern India's Andhra Pradesh, where a man was brutally trampled by a herd of elephants.

The incident took place in the Bandaravandalapalli village, Pileru Mandal, Chittoor district on October 15.

Visuals showed the elephants roaming through the dense area, while the farmer lay lifeless, covered in mud. He was trampled so severely that he was barely recognisable, as concerned locals stood by, watching the grim scene.

According to reports, the victim, Rajareddy, had been asleep in a mango orchard when the elephants, believed to have wandered from a nearby forest, entered the area and attacked him. Despite efforts, his injuries were fatal, and he passed away the following day. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The herd, consisting of 11 elephants, remains in the orchard, causing alarm among the locals. Authorities are working to ensure the safe relocation of the elephants back to the forest. "We are taking all necessary precautions to relocate the elephants without further harm," said Chittoor District Forest Officer, S. Raghuram.
