Bus catches fire sending passengers fleeing in terror in Thailand
A fire tore through a bus carrying Indonesian tourists in Thailand - just weeks after a tragic school bus fire killed at 20 pupils and three teachers.
Footage shows the inferno engulfing the Scania coach that was parked along the old Mittraphap Road in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on the evening of October 16.
Police Captain Surawat Padee of the Pak Chong Police Station said they received a report at 7:30 pm.
Three firetrucks arrived to douse the flames, which were extinguished after around 30 minutes.
The bus driver Apichart Linda, 46, said he was driving 50 Indonesian tourists from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima when the fire erupted.
He said: 'I stopped at the scene so my passengers could have dinner at a nearby restaurant. After they had all left, the fire broke out at the back of the bus.'
Most of their belongings were safe, he added.
Police said the cause of the fire was still being investigated as the bus reportedly ran on petrol but its engine was undamaged.
The incident comes weeks after the death trap bus fire that killed 20 children and three teachers in Pathum Thani on October 1.
The heavily modified 54-year-old coach run by Chinnaboot Tour Company had burst into flames while the youngsters from the Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School in Uthai Thani were on an educational visit to an electricity plant in Bangkok.
A fire reportedly started in the undercarriage as the vehicle hit the concrete road barriers.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
