In an enchanting return of nature's nocturnal spectacle, the waters off Newport Beach have once again transformed into a shimmering wonderland of bioluminescence starting Saturday night. This mesmerizing phenomenon, where the ocean glows with a mysterious blue-green light, has captivated locals and tourists alike, heralding the comeback of bioluminescent cruises led by Davey’s Locker & Newport Landing Whale Watching.

On the evening of October 15, Davey’s Locker organized a special scouting cruise aboard their whale watching vessel, the Catallac. The purpose was clear: to chase the glowing waves created by bioluminescent algae, known scientifically as dinoflagellates. As the boat cut through the water, the movement agitated these microscopic organisms, causing them to emit their signature ethereal light. Witnesses described the scene as nothing short of magical, with the ocean around the boat turning into a canvas of luminescent hues.

Carl, a representative from Davey’s Locker, shared his excitement, "Seeing the bioluminescence return like this is always a thrill. It's like the ocean itself is alive with light." Carl provided exclusive footage and photos via a Dropbox link, showcasing not only the recent event but also historic video from a similar occurrence in January this year.

The glowing waves, a rare treat visible under the cover of darkness, have sparked a surge in interest for nighttime cruises. Responding to public demand, Davey’s Locker has announced they will be running additional bioluminescence cruises tonight, offering the public a chance to witness this natural marvel firsthand.
