Lebanon: Death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon rises to 2,412
Beirut, Lebanon - October 16, 2024
The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon since the outbreak of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict on October 8, 2023 has risen to 2,412, and the number of wounded individuals has increased to 11,285, according to a report released by the Lebanese Council of Ministers on Thursday.
The report said that during the past 24 hours, 96 airstrikes and shellings were recorded in various areas of Lebanon, bringing the total number of Israeli attacks to 10,246.
According to the report, about a third of the Lebanese people have become displaced, and there is a risk of epidemic spreading among the displaced.
The Lebanese government has set up 1,096 shelters to house displaced people, with 900 of them already running in full capacity. Currently, 190,882 displaced individuals are staying in the officially established shelters.
According to the Israeli military, its forces conducted strikes on Hezbollah targets in eastern and southern Lebanon on Thursday, with loud explosions heard and thick smoke observed in certain areas.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday announced the killing of a Hezbollah commander in the southern Lebanese district of Bint Jbeil.
Hezbollah said they attacked multiple concentration areas of the Israeli army in southern Lebanon and struck Israeli Merkava tanks in different locations on Thursday, causing casualties among Israeli soldiers.
The IDF on Thursday said that five Israeli soldiers were killed during combat in southern Lebanon.
