Berlin, Germany - October 18, 2024

Hundreds of German residents rallied at Alexanderplatz in Berlin, capital of Germany on Friday to protest U.S. President Joe Biden's visit to Germany.

The demonstration began at 17:00. Protesters chanted "We don't welcome Biden" to express their antipathy to U.S. military policies, reflecting doubts among Germans about the current Germany-U.S. relationship.

Biden arrived in Berlin on Thursday night for a short visit. He met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday. The two leaders reaffirmed military support for Ukraine and Israel, sparking strong criticism among the protesters.

The protesters also expressed concerns over the U.S. plan to deploy conventionally armed ground-launched intermediate-range missiles in Germany on a rotational basis beginning in 2026, which was announced by the two countries July 10 on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Washington.

The protesters urged the German government to stop following the United States and promote settlements of conflicts through diplomatic approaches and dialogues.
