A quick-thinking motorcycle rider leapt away before a pickup truck crashed on the tail of her two-wheeler.

The resident was waiting outside her niece's home to bring her some food when a modified truck reversed on her in Samut Sakhon, Thailand, on October 11.

Home CCTV footage shows the scooter rider making a turn when she hopped off her vehicle to avoid a silver truck swiftly moving backwards.

The back portion of the motorcycle was crushed, but the alert motorist was unhurt, walking to the pavement while a little girl went out of the house.

The pickup truck driver climbed down after his vehicle stopped and discussed the damages.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
