French tourist arrested for recklessly riding motorcycle in Thailand
A French tourist recklessly swerving between lanes while standing on his motorcycle without a shirt was arrested in Thailand.
The holidaymaker, named by police as Hugo, 21, met a group of local motorbike riders on a trip to the mountain where he allegedly performed the dangerous manoeuvres in Chiang Mai on October 18.
Footage shows the young backpacker standing up on his two-wheeler while moving across lanes to overtake vehicles and other motorists as seen from a driver's car.
One of the drivers who saw him, Thanakrit Chomkham, said: 'The foreigner was riding a motorcycle dangerously on Sotna Road. It worried me as he could cause a crash.'
The young tourist reportedly led the convoy wearing only short pants until they reached the mountain road, where he separated from the group.
He was seen performing more stunts on a curved road and crossed a double solid yellow line road.
Due to breaking traffic rules, tourist police searched for Hugo, who was arrested the next day, October 19.
Phuping Ratchaniwet Police Station Police Lieutenant Colonel Awirut Sukyaem said: 'We charged him with riding without a license and reckless riding without regard for others' safety. We will proceed with legal manoeuvres'
Hugo was taken into custody during the investigation.
In Thailand, driving without a license is punishable with up to three months imprisonment and a fine of up to 10,000 baht (230.15 GBP). While reckless driving carries a fine of up to 20,000 baht (460.30 GBP) and a year in prison.
