Floodwaters surged through roads in Roswell, New Mexico, following heavy rain.

Dramatic footage captured by resident Steven Byrd shows the inundated Sycamore Street on October 19.

He said: 'I had just come back from El Paso and had to drive around looking for a way home, but so many streets were flooded.'

Reports indicate that several vehicles were submerged due to a record-breaking downpour that led to a flash flood emergency in the area late Saturday.

New Mexico State Police reported at least two fatalities and nearly 300 rescues by the National Guard following the intense rain and flooding, with 38 individuals taken to hospitals.

The National Weather Service stated that Roswell experienced an unprecedented daily rainfall of 5.78 inches, surpassing the previous record of 5.65 inches on November 1, 1901.
