This is the tense moment fishermen capture a large crocodile in a river in India.

Locals reported that they had alerted the forest department about the reptile several times but claimed their concerns were ignored by officials, prompting them to capture the beast on their own.

Footage shows the 8ft crocodile being trapped with a net by residents in the Daya River in the Chupurungi area of the Kanas region on October 19.

Reports indicate that a few days prior, a giant croc was spotted in the Daya River and later in the Makar River in the Pipili area of Puri district, Odisha.

Villagers expressed relief following the crocodile's capture.

Crocodiles are large semiaquatic reptiles that eat insects, crustaceans, snails, small fish, frogs, and tadpoles. However, they see humans as easy prey, with an estimated 1,000 people falling victim to these animals each year.

India has two main crocodile species - the saltwater croc and the mugger croc, which is found in freshwater rivers.
