Spain: Daring Rescue in the Pyrenees as Guardia Civil Airlifts Injured Climber from 100-Meter Perch
Huesca, Spain - October 20, 2024
A dramatic rescue unfolded in the Penas de Riglos, Huesca, where a 29-year-old French climber was stranded over 100 meters up on Montana Irene. The alpinist, incapacitated by a severe ankle injury after striking a rock, found himself helpless and called for emergency assistance.
The Guardia Civil's Mountain Rescue Group (GREIM), backed by their Air Unit and medical team 061, launched a complex operation to save the climber. With the rugged terrain making ground access impossible, a helicopter was deployed, executing precise maneuvers near the mountainside to reach the stranded man.
Video footage shows the heart-stopping moments as rescuers secured the climber and safely evacuated him to San Jorge Hospital in Huesca. Despite the perilous conditions, the mission concluded successfully, bringing the injured climber to safety.
