Passerby rushes into burning kitchen to turn off gas valve in heroic fashion
On October 19, in Zhuzhou, Hunan, a kitchen fire broke out in a residential house when the homeowner forgot to turn off the stove while rendering pork fat. The flames quickly spread, creating a dangerous situation.
At this critical moment, Mr. Su, a passerby, noticed the fire and, without hesitation, rushed into the burning house to swiftly turn off the gas cylinder, effectively preventing the fire from escalating further and ensuring the safety of nearby residents.
Mr. Su recalled that while passing by the house, he saw flames through the window and immediately stopped to check. After finding the front door open and receiving no response from inside, he decided to take action. Su ran into the kitchen, and despite the raging fire, he closed the gas valve without hesitation, cutting off the fuel source and buying valuable time for the fire to be controlled.
Just as Su was about to leave, there was a sudden electrical explosion in the kitchen, making the situation even more dangerous. However, Su remained calm and quickly located the circuit breaker to cut off the power, further preventing the fire from spreading.
Shortly after, the elderly homeowner rushed back and, together with Su, managed to bring the fire under control.
The homeowner later expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Su for his heroic actions. He admitted that the fire started because he left the stove on while rendering pork fat and left the house, and if it hadn’t been for Su’s quick intervention, the outcome could have been much worse. Su, who works in the restaurant industry and has some firefighting knowledge, said that in such an emergency, he couldn’t just stand by, adding, “After all, I’m still young.”
