Gaza Strip - October 20, 2024

Residents of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip are reeling from the aftermath of a devastating Israeli strike on Saturday, with many victims still trapped under the rubble, relying on the rescue of local civil defense forces, which have very limited rescuing capabilities.

The Israel military conducted another airstrike in Gaza on Saturday, targeting a residential area in northern Gaza's Beit Lahia. According to Sunday's statement from the Palestinian Health Ministry, the airstrike had left 87 people dead or missing and over 40 others injured, marking the most devastating attack with the highest casualty toll in months.

Many residents were trapped under the debris after the attack, while local rescue resources were constrained.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned Israel's airstrike as "genocide". The Israeli military later announced on Tuesday that it has carried out investigations on the attack.

"More than 40 people are still trapped under the rubble, and the civil defense is trying to get them out. The means by which the civil defense to get them out is quite outdated, and the capabilities are very limited. Now, our friends and neighbors are still trapped beneath the rubble. We pray to Allah for their safety and for someone to be sent to rescue them from beneath the rubble.";
