US: Dramatic Drone Footage Captures Wildfire Battle on Lamentation Mountain, Berlin CT
Berlin, United States - October 21, 2024
In a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster, a large wildfire broke out on the west side of Lamentation Mountain in Berlin, Connecticut, just before 6 p.m. ET on Monday, October 21, as captured in a dramatic drone video by X user Greg Balicki. The footage offers a bird's-eye view of the intense firefighting efforts against a backdrop of rugged terrain.
The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's (DEEP) Wildfire Division, swiftly responded to the emergency. The fire, which officials estimate to have scorched 10-15 acres, presented unique challenges due to the area's steep and rocky landscape.
As night fell, the decision was made to limit overnight operations due to the hazardous conditions, focusing instead on containment and monitoring. "The fire had been moving off to the northeast at a slow rate of speed as of Monday night," officials reported, with resources strategically positioned to safeguard the community.
Despite the fire's progress, there were no immediate threats to nearby residences, and no evacuation orders were issued. The focus remained on protecting lives and property while managing the fire's spread.
