On October 21, a fire broke out in a semi-finished goods warehouse at a lithium battery factory in Shunde, Guangdong, due to a spontaneous combustion of the batteries.

Surveillance footage shows thick smoke filling the warehouse, and as workers were trying to locate the source of the smoke, one of the batteries suddenly exploded. A second explosion quickly followed. Workers attempted to extinguish the fire with buckets of water, but due to the nature of the batteries, the fire couldn't be put out and instead grew larger, eventually consuming and turning all the stored lithium batteries into ashes.

According to the factory owner, Mr. Zhu, the incident was likely caused by thermal runaway of the batteries. The factory had only started production in June, and the estimated loss is around 20,000 yuan. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Authorities have since ordered the factory to cease operations and conduct a thorough safety inspection to eliminate any potential hazards and ensure safe production practices moving forward.
