Sterling Heights, United States - October 19, 2024

In a dramatic display of bravery, officers from the Sterling Heights Police Department successfully rescued a man and his three dogs from a rapidly spreading house fire on October 19, 2024.

The emergency unfolded around 2:40 p.m. when Officer Jesse Ingrum responded to a 911 call reporting smoke billowing from a residence. Upon arrival, he discovered a resident trapped inside, along with his pets, as the fire engulfed the kitchen.

Hearing cries for help from the rear of the home, Officer Ingrum quickly assessed the situation. Despite finding the rear door locked, he kicked it in and entered the smoke-filled house, where he found the disoriented man on the ground, bleeding from his head. With swift action, Officer Ingrum helped him to his feet and guided him outside to safety, where fire department personnel provided medical care.

Simultaneously, other officers located and rescued three dogs from the perilous conditions inside the home. The fire department worked diligently to extinguish the flames, successfully preventing damage to surrounding properties.

Chief Dale Dwojakowski praised the officers for their quick thinking and selflessness, stating, "Their actions undoubtedly saved a man and his dogs' lives. I’m proud of the officers’ heroic efforts and grateful that all involved were able to escape the incident safely."
