A wall of toxic foam engulfed roads and spilled into surrounding agricultural fields after water from a reservoir was discharged into the Thenpennai river.

The foam that stands 5 foot tall in some areas has caused traffic jams in the Hosur area it also gives off a foul odour.

According to reports, water from the Kelavarapalli dam had been polluted by industrial effluents and had to be discharged.

Roads in Tamil Nadu’s Hosur and the adjoining agricultural fields have been covered with toxic foam after water was discharged from the nearby Kelavarapalli dam on Thursday (October 24).

The foams have been blocking roads and giving off a foul odour, leading to traffic jams in the region, some 40 km from Karnataka’s Bengaluru.

The water of the dam, polluted by industrial effluents, had to be discharged into the Thenpennai river due to the heavy rain the region has been receiving over the past week. And the foam has reportedly been piling up over a few days, now standing some 5 feet on the road.
