US election early voting begins as long queues for in Texas
The early voting for the U.S. 2024 election began with long queues in Texas.
Footage by Edward Devally shows locals waiting in line on October 22. Reports indicated that more than 840,000 residents cast their ballots in person on the first day.
Data from the Texas Secretary of State's office reveals that 881,078 Texans participated, representing 4.73 per cent of registered voters. This surpasses the first day of in-person early voting for the 2020 presidential election, which saw 755,136 voters, or 4.4 per cent.
The increase in participation reflects a significant rise in the state's electorate, with the number of registered voters in Texas growing by over 10 per cent between 2020 and 2024.
Early voting in Texas will end on November 1, with the general election scheduled for Tuesday, November 5. Donald Trump and Kamala Harries are tied in the polls.
