The Popocatepetl volcano, affectionately known as Don Goyo, has reported 24 exhalations in the past day, raising alarms as it remains on yellow phase 2 alert according to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

This high-risk volcano is under constant surveillance due to its potential hazards. In light of the recent activity, authorities are urging the public to stay clear of the volcano, particularly the crater, due to the risk of falling ballistic fragments.

Additionally, residents are warned to avoid river valleys during heavy rains, as the threat of mudflows and debris flows increases. Federal officials emphasize the importance of relying on information from official channels, urging citizens to disregard rumors regarding the volcano's activity.
