This is the shocking moment locals found two bears trapped in a water tank in India.

Reports indicate that the animals fell into an open storage tank overnight in an orchard in the Buchoo Bala area of Anantnag district in the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The massive bears struggled to climb the wall while a crowd of onlookers gathered around them.

Footage shows one of the bears growling at the spectators, while a witness noted that the animals had engaged in a physical altercation, resulting in injuries.

Another resident can be heard in the video saying: 'They had fallen probably in the pitch darkness in an attempt to drink water from the tank.'

'They are fully grown bears and they have even bitten each other.'

The community promptly alerted wildlife officials and successfully rescued the bears from the water tank, as authorities reported.
