STORYLINE:

The 16th BRICS Summit, held from Tuesday to Thursday in Kazan, Russia, has drawn global attention.

Since the inception of the BRICS mechanism, openness and inclusiveness have remained its members' abiding commitment.

As the bloc grows, experts believe it will continue to promote more inclusive and equitable global governance, through which Global South nations unite for common development.

Experts also highlighted China's role in building BRICS into a major venue of cooperation among Global South nations.

"This fair and equitable or just international order which BRICS envisages to create or build is mirrored or reflected in the (China-proposed) initiatives. Given the economic heft of China and the kind of global public goods it has initiated, I think they have found appeal in the Global South, be it the Global Development Initiative, and also the other initiatives like GSI, Global Security Initiative. Therefore, China's contribution to steering the BRICS towards success has been very, very important."
